I leave tomorrow (Saturday) for Gleason, TN where I will be teaching/preaching at First Baptist Church Gleason. It will be bitter sweet. I have been sick for the last two days (fever 101-102) and today I am just starting to feel at 85%. It is also hard to leave with so much going on around [...]

“Attractive Works”

I (along with 30 other people) am taking a Greek class. Perhaps those of you who know me may be saying, “Again.” Yes! The course title is “Greek For Dummies.”
The New Testament was written in Koine Greek and learning the original language really adds a “livilness” to reading the New Testament. For example, tonight Brother Dave (teacher) drew [...]
“We Live More Deeply Than We Can Think”

I am sure your days are as full as mine. Thursday is one of those “full” days for me. I leave the house fairly early, drive to Wake Forest, take care of the responsibilities I have as a student and sometime around 6 or 7 PM (depending on what is going on) I head home [...]
Doggy Ears: Leave them Alone

Proverbs 26:17 - He who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own Is like one who takes a dog by the ears (ESV).
I remember watching a man grab a dogs ears once. Do you know what the dog did? He bit the man’s hand ”real good.”
I love reading the Proverbs, there is so much [...]

WOW! The weekend is over–where do I begin? Shall I begin by telling you that on my way home from school Friday night I saw a parking lot full of cars. What were they doing? They were getting prepared for the stew (to be cooked at 5:30 am), yard sale (to begin at 7 pm), [...]
The Church “Being” the Church: Widows and those under trials

Christians are often guilty of “doing” church instead of “being” the church. However, this is not true everywhere. I believe Bethel Hill Baptist Church makes a serious effort to “be” the church. Oh, we are not perfect, we have not obtained, but we do press on (Phil 3:12). The above pictures are from two weeks [...]
VBS 2008

This is a picture from the World War II memorial. Truman’s statement is well put, and it also communicates my feelings of those who have served Jesus so well during our most recent VBS week.
Picture above is James Bowes (who went to be with the Lord last October) and Joel. Mr. Bowes was a servant [...]
July 4th Weekend

Thanks Tim Bowes! Tim practiced the gift of hospitality this past weekend. His family invited us (along with a few others) over for a dinner and all we had to bring were chairs. We had a wonderful time. The men, women and children enjoyed one anothers company.
Pray for Matt, he is my fellow Ethiopia “mission buddy.”
Homecoming: Changed Lives (part 4)

These pictures are from lunch at the Delta Sandwich Shop. This little “ma and pa” diner makes some very good hamburgers. When I was a custodian, Pastor would take me here. Once again, the weekend was full of reminders that God is good. Isn’t it funny how small things can mean so much?
This picture is [...]

Our family sure enjoys the Harmon family. In many ways, the Harmon’s are like family. Before we moved to North Carolina, we lived with the Harmons’ for about one month (Molly, Kylie, Kaitlyn and myself). Here are some pictures, and as you look you might guess why our family has so much fun when we [...]
