Today we just received sad news that one of our bus drivers and his daughter died from malaria and typhoid. He left behind a wife and 3 children. I cannot begin to tell you how my heart “hurts.” The conditions in Ethiopia can be very hard. As you have read in many of our Ethiopia [...]

Hit-a-korma James!
Posted in Ethiopia 2008 on March 13, 2009 | 5 Comments »
On Tuesday of this past week, I received word that our translator to the Guji’s was found dead. I have been rather numb and solemn since. At the age of 23, James went home to be with the Lord. How? From what I understand we are uncertain of the circumstances surrounding his death, but 6 [...]

Above: Leigh, Lynette and Molly
Today I have been thinking about Ethiopia. It all began with a phone call from someone in Georgia who is going to Ethiopia at the end of this month with her husband and son (January 2009). Through a friend, they came across this site and contacted me for some information. We [...]

In my last post “Ethiopia: Till We Meet Again,” I briefly touched on surrendering our children to the Lord. As our departure neared, I began to realize that our children also had to surrender their parents!
I was not a perfect child, and my children are not perfect – but they are growing up with an [...]

Acts 13:3 tells us that the church at Antioch sent out some missionaries. If you recall, they came back when the work was completed (Act 14:26).
In some ways, this post is a tribute to my precious wife.
Most of you know Molly and I went to Ethiopia together. I have always wanted Molly to go on [...]

While on our way back to Addis, we stopped in Awasa for a brief meeting that Dave and Becky had with a group of believers who dig / drill wells. The above picture is a few of the team members getting a glimpse of this wonderful ministry.
Recently, we received word that the well drilling team [...]

For those of you who have followed my Ethiopia posts, all of the team is officially home. Yesterday afternoon (12.31.2008) Brother Dave and Becky made it back. The above picture respresents something that I have now experienced on both ends. I have been “welcomed home,” and I have now been a part of the welcoming [...]
Ethiopia: Part 20 (Coffee Anyone?)

After shelling the coffee bean from the coffee shell (a laborious work), roast the coffee bean.
Then place the roasted bean in a hollowed out log for grinding.
Find a good stick for crushing and pound away (approx. 10 minutes). Coffee must be very fine.
Here is the crushed coffee bean.
Molly laughing because she thinks making coffee is [...]

Jamie, an Ethiopian follower of Jesus (story to follow), Molly, Lynette, Leight (Mitchel on lap).
I remember this dear saint from our first trip. If I have the story correct, this gentleman was one of the first Christians in the Burji area, and he was one of BeckyLynn’s fathers students over 35 years ago. Him and I [...]
